A lot of this is going to come down to common sense, but I'm etching it in stone so nobody can debate it.
Read this as well! <- Roleplay Ettiquette thread (Yes that is a link)
Change your rendering subsystem to OpenGL before you step into the map or you'll probably die
Map's current killcount: 200+
This isn't a rule but do it, you'll thank me later - or rather you won't have to because you won't get murdered
1. Powerplaying and Godmoding is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. Three strikes and you're out. Allowances will be made, however, depending on situation - If interacting with an unconcious individual they're not gonna have some sixth sense to stop you creepin'. Likewise if your cubs are being assholes you can scruff them without their consent. They're cubs, what are they gonna do? Please ASK for permission before you manipulate someone elses' character though. .
To clarify, this also applies to "extended" acts. You cannot say "X tried to grab Y and drag her away into the swamps." Grab first, THEN if you are successful try and haul them around.
2. (REVISED 7/5/15) - There is no fight system, but be realistic here. If you are bitten in the neck, you're probably going to bleed out and die. A dire wolf has a harder bite than a smilodon, but it's not got the claws or the upper body strength to match. DO NOT GODMODE your character or play their injuries off like it's nothing. It's really annoying. Also, don't chain endless dodges back to back. It makes sense for an experienced fighter to be able to dodge an inexperienced subadult's clumsy attacks of course, but don't be stupid about it. If I see any stupid bonfire-esque fights happening where people are breaking bones or getting torn open and just walking it off, or dodging every single attack despite demonstrating in-RP they're not very good fighters, I will put a strike against you.
Anything goes as far as fighting, but NO lethal poisons, and no poisons at all unless you can justify how your character obtained it, portray the effects and risks realistically, and why your character is using it in the first place. If you cannot give me a detailed explanation on what it is, how it works, how your character knows about it and why they're using it, DO NOT USE IT. This goes for other improvised weapons. Yeah, wearing the bones of your enemies is cool but using them as weapons is gonna be a LOT harder to pull off.
In addition, please sort out if people are gonna die before you fight. Because there are no "forbidden" attacks. Some characters will go straight for "fatal" attacks, and that's a risk you accept when you choose to fight instead of run or talk your way out of it.
3. Swear as much as you fuckin' like, but if someone asks you to tone it down, respect their wishes and do so. Not all of us have the skin of a rhino, and we do have some younger members - who to their credit, are generally fine with these things. But different strokes for different folks 'n all that. We don't want people being uncomfortable from group chat. Unless it's hilarious.
4. Conflicts between characters are one thing, but conflicts between members will not be tolerated. You don't have to like each other to not be asses in public. If you have to hash something out with someone, keep it in private. I will NOT have drama happening in group chat or on the boards. It's bad news. In addition, please do not spark drama with others outside the group - I'd rather we didn't all get a bad rep because of the actions of one user.
I try to maintain a friendly enviroment for our group - please attempt to slot yourself in nicely. We have no tolerance for edgy emo kids and if you're being a drama llama in chat and making everyone uncomfortable, I will be severely unimpressed and will warn you.
In-game however we are like 60% drama of some kind so go for it lol. Just don't try to summon plots and derail ones in progress to bring the spotlight into your character. We're all the leads in our own stories, after all.
5. You don't need to write a novel every time you do something in-character, but please put in a little effort. Short posts are ok in scenes that move quickly, but try and keep it at 1 full (max char limit) post minimum. Be mindful not to post cut, and give people some time to respond before you post again or move on to something/someone/somewhere else.
In addition, as this is a group that is driven primarily by character interaction and development, please do not simply ignore people who are nearby or in the same scene as you. If they do something that would get them noticed, notice them! It's understandable to be scared if it's a violent or aggressive character, but then you can always run or hide.
6. "Wolfspeak" is frowned upon here. Please try not to use it. You will not be warned for refusal to comply, but seriously. If you wouldn't read a book written the same way you're writing, step it up. It's really irritating - No, "Femora" does NOT mean female - it is the plural form of Femur, also known as your bloody thighbone. I don't care what your other group talks like. Don't do that here.
7. NO neon markings. If it is not a color that occurs on cats in nature, it's out of bounds. Obviously, we can't really know for certain what a Smilodon looked like but we sure as hell know they weren't blue with neon green markings and emo bangs. Dire Wolves, Arctodus, none of those were either. If you want to get creative with markings and color combinations, be my guest! But only use the kind of thing that occurs on animals naturally. A soft mahogany-red cat is fine, as is a maltese blue-grey. Bright neon orange is not ok. Neither are any green shades. Yellows should be kept muted. And NO 0 0 0 blacks. Yes, there are black animals. And we accept them - but 0 0 0 black looks awful on almost everyone's screen and doesn't look realistic either. Even melanistic animals have some tone or pattern to them, however faint.
The only exception to this rule - ghosts and hallucinations. They can pretty much be whatever you like since they are not bound by the laws of common sense or nature.
8. On a similar note, items. Naturalistic items are fine - feathers, bones, stuff like that. No glasses, swords, bracelets, spiked collars, etc. Plain collars MAYBE could be passed off, but not unless you can convince me as to why your character needs to have it. Warpaints are also very much allowed, but again like with everything else you need to be able to explain to me what it's made of and why your character has it. No neon warpaints. Some strong dyes can be made with a lot of things found in nature, but none are neon bright.
It is ok to use an item that would normally be banned, like a spiked collar, if you can explain how it was made by/for the character and why they wear it. For example, in the spiked collar example, it's not too far-fetched that an animal could push teeth through a strip of leather and wrap it around their neck. But it wouldn't be a real "collar" so to say.
9. In-RP, you can make your character do basically whatever he or she wants. But do NOT expect there to be no consequences. If you do something bad you may be punished, and the severity could be anything from a bollocking to execution. If you try to claim a territory, do not be surprised when you have to then fight to defend it. If you try to attack someone, don't be surprised when their whole pride falls on you and tears you to pieces. If you kill someone, don't expect it to be forgotten. Be aware some individuals and groups will have varying reactions to you depending on circumstance. Rogues will generally be more accepting towards each other than rival prides, but even that's not a guarantee. Be aware of territorial boundaries!
10. While the prides are intended to be mostly prehistoric felines, there can on occasion be other species incorporated into them as allies. The same goes for the wolf packs, and any herds of herbivores that should form. Other species will likely be treated with suspicion, hostility, or at best - curiosity.
To prove to me you've actually read these rules, when I ask you for the "magic phrase" tell me this - "Cactus". Part two is in the roleplay ettiquette, linked at the top of the page in bold red.
11. The hierarchy must be climbed rung by rung - you can't kill a leader and go straight to their position as a rogue. In fact, if you're a rogue don't try and kill anyone. You'll be murdered. Murdered HARD! Common sense will get you far in Renascentia - Trying to screw with a pride alone is a great way to die very quickly. :'D
12. NOBODY starts off a faction member, unless they join approved as such by the faction leader. You need to RP your way in. There are no creatures "born" on Lazarus Peninsula aside from the NPCs and those who are born through the course of the roleplay.
There will be some small exceptions - usually when someone's char dies and they want to keep playing on another, people's chars have offspring, or you ask permission and I grant it. Don't be "that guy" who walks up to a pride or pack's den like "sup" as a rogue, you will literally get killed.
13. Characters are gonna die, even focal ones or group leaders. Be aware of this. Not a rule so much as a reminder. Don't try and make your character survive things they can't. If you get rabies, you're going to die. If you get shaken around by the neck, you're going to die. If you break your jaw, you're going to die unless you're cared for by someone else. Characters WILL get sick. Characters WILL get injured. Death WILL happen.
This does not mean it can be forced onto you unless you put yourself in a position where there is literally no other outcome, but let's be reasonable.
14. Hybrids are allowed in Renascentia, but only within the boundaries of reasonable belief. If the creatures share a taxological subfamily (Example; Homotherium x Smilodon, Machairodus x Xenosmilus, Leopard x Lion) then for the purposes of this roleplay we will accept that they can produce viable offspring.
DANGERS -WILL- be associated with this - Can't mash something the size of a chihuahua and something the size of a cow together and expect no complications. If the mother is significantly smaller than the father, injury or death may occur during birth.
Hybrids within the same genus can enjoy no problems though, unless it's something like a female gracilis x a male populator. That female is gonna have a bad time.
15. Renascentia allows several mature themes that may be offensive or unsettling to some. Violence, sometimes rather extreme, is rather ordinary here - as is forced captivity and death (obviously). But we understand that not everyone has the same sensitivities, and so for PARTICULARLY nasty things (If you have to ask yourself, it's probably not kosher.) keep them out of the public eye and between players who are cool with it.
The thing about a character-driven RP is that it's pretty much up to the characters what happens, good or bad. So there's no real restrictions on how they can behave. But be mindful of the people sitting behind the PCs. If they express discomfort or ask you to stop, STOP.
16. Once a character has been established in the RP (Encountered another character), you CANNOT change major details like species, size or sex. It just messes everything up when a lion suddenly turns into a wolf and you're trying to figure out how to play that off.

A rough plot overview (there's like a million seperate plotthreads going on between characters and groups so this is just a very brief idea)
And of course, the map(s)!
Speaking of map, here's a map for your map so you can get lost while you get lost

Speaking of map, here's a map for your map so you can get lost while you get lost
